Ninja's don't like dull blades.

Remember when I said I enjoy cutting quilts?
I'm starting to wonder how accurate that statement really was.
Whimsy has started a quilt, I'd say the top is about half finished. THAT is why I finally started cutting a quilt.
Lets see, only something elaborate and complicated would do.
I didn't have enough fabric for my first choice (Thank goodness!!) So I settled on hexagons. Yes, hexagons. I carefully selected 8 fat quarters from my stash and started cutting...I quickly developed my own technique, and working with a dull blade I cut 2 of the fat quarters. I have seen the light, sharp blades are a must if you want to keep your sanity!
The quilt I'm working on is going to be a modern grandma's garden quilt, I think it'll be about lap size. That is to say, I hope it will be a lap size..... I'm pretty sure each block will be about 12". The only scary part is I still have to cut my background fabric into hexagons....not looking forward to that. Oh, and since I don't have the patience to hand sew this quilt like I'm supposed to, I'm going to do it completely by machine. Whats that? You think that's impossible and\or crazy? Do NOT underestimate a quilting ninja's skills. I will be posting my progress and maybe a tutorial on machine sewing the blocks if anyone's interested.

Whimsy vs Ninja : The Great Quilt Off!

My mom and I made this quilt together, she sewed the quilt top and I did the rest.

Both me and my mom are very competitive, so when I challenged her to a great and wonderus dual she just couldn't resist...little does she know I have every intent to show her exactly what ninja's are made of! I don't think she fully knows what she's gotten herself into....*grin*

Ladies and gentlemen,
I'm happy to announce Quilting Ninja's first quilt off!

The competitors :

Whimsy...
My own mother, fun and whimsical. She is comparable to a rose, beautiful and sweet. But don't let her sweetness fool you, she has thorns! She's very confident she'll win (Even my dad is on her side!) But we'll just see about that....

Quilting preferences: Likes layer cakes and other precut fabrics, doesn't enjoy cutting quilts. Machine binds quilts and usually doesn't attempt anything that requires too much patience...She likes the simple stuff.

Ninja...
Skilled and semi-stealthy, I always attempt the things others would call too ambitious. I'm not at all whimsical, but make up for it with uniqueness. I sometimes bite off more then I can chew, however I'm rarely discouraged. I'm extremely confident I'll be the champion.

Quilting preferences: Likes by-the-yard cuts and loves cutting. Hand sews binding and loves elaborate things that require a lot of patience, but also has an appreciation for simple things.

The objective is simple, whoever makes the most quilts by January 1st, 2011 wins.
The prize, $30 to spend on fabric and serious bragging rights.
I will write our progress on the sidebar, and post updates every week or so.
I'm sure when this is over a rematch will take place, competitions keep us motivated!

Go and check Whimsy's blog too, I'll make sure she posts on a regular basis :)

Quilting Ninja's first post!

This is a very exciting day! Though it's a little sad I have to celebrate this wonderful occasion by myself, I'm confident 365 days from now I will be celebrating my 1st anniversary along with many followers. After all, who wouldn't want to follow a ninja? Especially a quilting ninja... Anyways, I should share a little about myself. My name is Samantha, and I am a quilting addict.
My obsession started on January 1st, when I promised I'd try to make 12 quilts this year. I started out rather good, I finished 1 quilt and made 4 quilt tops that same month. Then I quit for a while. Now I'm back, ready to make as many quilts as I can!

Until next post,
